We were happy to play for the Irvine Global Village Event.. The City of Irvine sponsors an event encompasses Foods Dances, and Music from European and Asian countries. The attendance is large for the one day free event located at Irvine City Hall (Bill Barber Memorial Park).
Family Fun
We represented the Italian influence and Music upon the global village concept. We have been lucky enough to have perform at this event for the past 5 years. We take the music to the people and they enjoy the intimate setting in this family oriented event. We had as much fun as did the listeners!. It just goes to prove that the people in the world are basically the same and good at heart.

We did a String Quartet for a Gay couple in the Palm Springs area. This engagement was unusual because the client not only chose the music for the ceremony, he chose the music for the entire engagement. Usually the clients are only interested in the music for the ceremony, because the songs they choose have a specific meaning to them. He actually chose a variety of classical music (Baroque, etc.) and songs from Broadway shows. So it was quite a mix of selections.
Anyway, we started the prelude music, and then went to the ceremony. In walks Barry Manilow with his dog and sat down (Barry and the dog). The ceremony went very well, and then everyone adjourned to the hors d’oeuvres and enjoyed the company. We were approached by several guests and were complimented on the selections and performance of the music. These are the things we want to hear!!

It was a beautiful Friday morning on Lido Isle in Newport Beach and also the 4th of July. The Fire Department Hook and Ladder lead off the event. You know if they have to go to a fire, all they have to do is put the pedal to the metal. That’s the reason they need to be in front. Secondly the Boy Scouts are marching in formation with the American Flag. Thirdly comes the band with fife and drum to make a BIG NOISE. Then we have the March-Mellows, a group of ladies from the Island all dressed up in white and each carrying an umbrella. The March-Mellows were also in formation. Then came the veterans. We had veterans as far back as World War II with signs on the side of their favorite toys (Hot Cars, convertibles, motorcycles, and race cars that normally do not drive on streets). And , of course all the neighborhood kids were following along with decorated bikes and wagons but they weren’t as organized as the Boy Scouts and March-Mellows. We marched around the island, which is about 2 miles, once and then went to the next party. Lots of FUN with FUN people to celebrate our great nation.

A Victorian Tea Party is a great fundraiser!
This one has grown and grown over the years. Each parent sets a table for tea with different themes and settings, and boy, some of them are pretty fancy if you know what I mean. They sell places at the tables and the proceeds go to the charity to offer special events and productions. Attendance this last year was approximately 300 to 400 guests in a huge tent placed in the parking lot. Some of the guests’ costumes are very creative.
In comes Fred’s String Band to provide some upbeat and elegant music. We perform classics and light classics and even some more contemporary selections for the pleasure of the guests while enjoying their tea and snacks. A few selections were Honey Bun from South Pacific, Lida Rose from Music Man, and Merry Widow Waltz. These are among the many pieces that are in our expansive library. This has become an annual event for us, and we look forward to many more.
